World Record Breaking Corvette ZR1

July 13th, 2023

Seems like an unwritten rule, if you port superchargers for a living, you must have the baddest car in town. That’s the way the guys at Kong Performance think. Of course, they went supercharged with a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Kong handled the supercharger work and sent the rest out to Late Model Performance (LMP) for the royal treatment. This is how it all turned out.

The centerpiece of this Chevy is under the hood. It’s an all-aluminum 7.0-liter LSR motor. The cylinder heads are Frankenstein with titanium valves. Engine internals include a forged crankshaft, custom ground camshaft as well as premium bearings and fasteners. Everything about this V8 engine is top shelf.

Before heading out to the dragstrip, the crew at LMP strap the ‘Vette to the hub dyno. After installing a new Kong intake, the best dyno run of the day netted 1,334hp and 980 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s insane power.

Time to go racing!

The first pass of the day yields an 8.73-seconds time slip at 166.5 mph. The next pass is 8.52-seconds @ 175.98 mph. That is good enough for a World Record in the Stick Shift ZR1 Class. Certainly, the baddest car in town.
