World Record LT4 Camaro – 8-Second Monster

December 31st, 2022

First, a brief history of this car and how the LMP (Late Model Performance) crew finds themselves in a position to reclaim the LT4 World Record. Earlier this season, the LMP team campaigned their Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to an LT4 (stock blower) record of 8.48-seconds in the quarter-mile. A few weeks later, an LT4 C7 Corvette Z06 posted an 8.44-second pass to take the record for themselves. This video documents the events which transpired when LMP gathered to reclaim the LT4 Stock Blower World Record (for any make of car).

For clarification purposes, the LT4 designation represents an engine/supercharger combination used in late model GM Performance machines. It consists of a 6.2-liter wet sump V8 engine and a 1.7-liter Eaton TVS supercharger. Sold as a GM crate package, this combination is rated at 640hp and 630 lb.-ft. of torque.

Despite being called a “stock blower” world record, the LT4 blower featured in this video is far from stock (internally). Presumably, only the blower housing must remain stock. This unit has been ported by Kong (arguably the premier LT4 blower porting firm in the nation). Both pulleys have also been upgraded.

In addition to the ported blower, this Camaro engine has been upgraded with a Stage 4 camshaft, a set of Frankenstein Stage 1 cylinder heads and 2-inch stainless exhaust headers. The fuel system has been enhanced with oversized injectors and an LMP Flex Fuel setup. A 112-millimeter throttle body and an LMP 5-inch intake manifold aid in increased airflow. To cool the hotter, denser air, there is a 3-nozzle methanol injection system.

Let’s head out to the track (closed course facility) and see if the LMP gang can take back the World Record.
