Step by Step – 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner-Hellcat

October 25th, 2019

The HELLRUNNER is a full blown, body off restomod performed expertly by Fast Freddie’s Rod Shop in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Fast Freddie takes us in a step-by-step journey to unite style and speed. The 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner is a snapshot of muscle car heyday. The Chrysler Hellcat drivetrain achieved legendary status the instant it rolled off the assembly line in 2015. Marrying these two icons was more a matter of “when” than “if”.

Believe it or not, this entire project begins with a barn find (I must be looking in the wrong barns). The Mopar was discovered sitting under a layer of drop cloths and dust. It had suffered a little and showed signs of rust and neglect. No problem – take it to Fast Freddie.

The crew at Freddie’s tore this bird apart (as Wile E. Coyote could only dream) and fitted every piece of the new chassis, suspension, wiring harnesses, computer and driveline to the body. As you can see, alterations were necessary. Once all the major pieces were fit and functional – everything was torn back apart for some major paint and body work.

With the body free from blemish, a fresh coat of orange was applied to the body. The underside and wheel openings were refinished in basic black. The body was dropped onto the reconfigured chassis and the driveline was installed. This is an amazing automobile.

From there, it was on to the Dynojet. The HELLRUNNER proved that it can produce 765hp. That is approximately 250hp more than the highest rated Roadrunner in 1969.

Enjoy this build, dyno and drive. I certainly did.
