VETKILR – 2JZ Mitsubishi Starion

January 12th, 2018

With a personalized license plate that reads “VETKILR” you might just as well have a target on your bumper. At the very least, you’d better have something under the hood to keep the wolves from the door (or rear bumper).

If memory serves me, there was never anything impressive under the bonnet of a Mitsubishi Starion – not from the factory at least. That would explain why this DSM owner decided to take a different path to backing up his license plate.

Sure, he could’ve went with an LS swap. I mean – it’s quick and economical but everybody is doing it. That’s why this guy opted to go with a time tested 2JZ 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder and a massive turbocharger. The 2JZ is readily available, it’s relatively cheap to build, and aftermarket parts are plentiful. Not to be overlooked is the fact that (when prepared correctly) these engines are virtually bulletproof; well able to withstand the rigors of high performance forced air induction.

This video takes us out to the Cecil County Dragway where our feature car manages to post several impressive passes on his way to a high 8-second run at 150+ mph. Great car and an awesome video.
