Red, White and Blue Shootout – U-Drags

July 11th, 2023

Here’s a new concept in drag racing. This unique contest involves a standing quarter-mile, an intense section of heavy braking, a hairpin turn and a roll race – all in a single pass. Should be interesting.

The vehicles participating in today’s matchup are the best-of-the-best from the U.S.A.

The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a mid-engine supercar. Equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter LT6 V8 engine, the Z06 can produce 670hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. At a curb weight of 3,774-pounds, the Corvette can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a mind-numbing 2.6-seconds and turn the standing quarter-mile in 10.6-seconds @ 131.6 mph. Top speed is 195 mph (computer controlled). The 2023 Corvette Z06 is widely lauded as the most capable version to date.

On the Ford side is the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500. This is the flagship of the Mustang lineup. Under the hood is a supercharged (intercooled) 5.2-liter V8 engine capable of producing 760hp and 625 lb.-ft. of torque. Tipping the scale at 4,125-pounds, the GT500 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6-seconds and blast through the quarter-mile in 11.5-seconds @ 129.6 mph. Top speed for the pony car is 180 mph.

I can’t wait to see the outcome of this crazy contest. Buckle-up!
