Blown 1971 Chevy Nova Gets Down on the Street

April 18th, 2023

Five years into this build and Ken Johnson is finally ready for the reveal. Thanks to Shawn at Autotopia LA, we are about to get the full walkaround and a white-knuckle test drive in this mind numbing restomod Nova. Joined by Rob (from RJFab), Shawn will deliver all the details before he jumps out on the pavement for some spirited fun.

Of course, we begin underneath the hood. The centerpiece is a built and supercharged LS3 V8 opened up to 418 cubic-inches. With the current pulley setup, this brute is putting 600hp to the ground. Lots of top-notch metal fabrication and paint work under the hood as well. The radiator and intercooler are totally hidden. The transmission is a GM (truck) 4L80E. The rear end is a Currie (Ford) 9-inch with 3.73:1 gears.

We have Detroit Speed suspension systems (front and rear) with a UniSteer rack-and-pinion steering unit. If the rear tires look fat, it’s because they are 345/30R19s stuffed in DSE wheel tube. Wheels are from Budnik. Manual braking is accomplished with a Baer four-wheel disc setup. There are 14-inch drilled and vented rotors and multi-piston calipers on all four corners.

Stunning is the word for this interior space (cockpit). That includes the trunk. Check it out.
