Airstrip Assault Supercar Showdown

August 11th, 2015

Airstrip Assault Supercar ShowdownThis skilled videographer has managed to capture some very competitive head-to-head roll racing on a closed airstrip. There are representations from many of the big exotic manufacturers – Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, and McLaren. The domestic bad boys showed up, too. There are Dodge Vipers and Challengers, Chevrolet Camaros and Corvettes, Cadillac CTS-Vs, and a scarce few Ford Mustangs. The imports include some Nissan GT-Rs and Toyota Supras (it’s alright to assume they are turbocharged). There is even an old ice cream truck and a 700+hp Volkswagen Golf.

These lucky competitors line up at one end of the airstrip and start off in a leisurely fashion. Once they reach 60 mph – it’s on like hotcakes – an all out battle of speed to the half-mile mark. During this event, sponsored by the Texas Speed Syndicate, some of the fastest competitors reached trap speeds of nearly 170 mph. That is not too shabby on a sweltering day when temperatures were in the high 90s and the humidity was so thick that you could cut it with a knife.
