9-Second EVO – Dragstrip and AWD Dyno

August 26th, 2018

Ran across this crushing orange EVO 8 at the 2018 Diamond Star Motors (DSM) Shootout in Ohio. Kasey was understandably proud of this build and managed to put up low-nine-second passes all day with a best (ever) of 9.29-seconds @ 155 mph.

Here’s the rundown on this awesome looking 2003 EVO:

At the heart of this beast is a 2.3-liter 4G63 engine built by Buschur Racing with a Manley crankshaft and connecting rods (pistons are by JE). The cylinder head is a BZE (CNC) unit with a set of GSC Power Division S3 camshafts.

An Extreme Turbo Systems (ETS) turbo kit, with a Precision 6870 turbocharger (anodized orange rotor), and an ETS intercooler have air gathering duty. A Tial blowoff valve and wastegates help to relieve the pressure and Dyno Time Speed Works intercooler piping connects the turbo parts together.

Providing the fuel is a Buschur Racing double pumper fuel pump and Fuel Injector Clinic (FIC) 2150cc fuel injectors. A Skunk2 Racing intake manifold (custom ported by Dyno Time) delivers the sizable quantities of air to the engine.

The car is running a stock ECU that has been speed density patched with a TEPHRA mod and tuned by Kasey Tuned at Dyno Works.

It’s got a Bushwacker PPG transmission (Exedy Triple Clutch) with a stock transfer case and a Quaife differential.

All in all, this is an incredible build and as nice an all-wheel drive drag car as you will ever find.
