SUV Shootout – Lotus Eletre R vs. Lamborghini Urus

April 5th, 2024

Today we hit the drag strip to test a pair of powerful sport utility vehicles for pure performance. This contest between European automakers also involves an added element of intrigue pitting all-electric against internal combustion. Let’s have a glance at the machinery.

Matt (from Car Wow) is in the Lotus Eletre R. This thing uses an electric motor on each axle to generate the equivalent of 903hp and 726 lb.-ft. of torque. At a curb weight of 5,850-pounds, this heavyweight can blow through the standing quarter mile in 10.3-seconds and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7-seconds. At a cost of $155K the Eletre R is a bit of a bargain when compared to the $300K Urus.

In the opposite lane is the stunning Lamborghini Urus. Under the hood is an all-aluminum (block and heads) twin turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. No electric motors here; this beauty is full-on internal combustion mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Tipping the scale at 4,986-pounds, the all-wheel drive Urus can produce 657hp and 627 lb.-ft. of torque. This Italian SUV can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3-seconds flat and turn the quarter mile in 11.2-seconds @ 122 mph.

It’s time to get these two pigs on the pavement and let them eat.
