700HP 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Restomod

April 8th, 2022

Thanks again to Shawn from Autotopia LA for finding this perfect 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Restomod. Despite the fact that ’65 is not typically a popular model for Chevelle enthusiasts, car owner John has done an extraordinary job with this one. Pretty and fast – that’s the right combination. Take a look at this vintage creampuff.

John has a long and complicated history with this car. It dates clear back to high school. After being separated from the car for a decade, a friend helped him to relocate it. The teardown began and John delivered the car to a paint shop for some fresh color. Unbelievably, the paint shop lost the car when they closed up shop (permanently). Again, John’s friends pitched in, found the pieces and brought them home. From there, it’s a love story. John poured his heart into this Chevy and it is paying off.

Among my favorite words in the English language are, “Let’s pop the hood”. Under there we find a 355 cubic-inch GM LS1 engine with a set of Patriot cylinder heads. The blower is a Whipple. The transmission is a 765 R4 from Bowtie Overdrive. The rear end is a Ford 9-inch with a set of 3.73:1 gears. This Chevy is making 601hp to the rear wheels on pump gas.

The stance is courtesy of a strengthened factory chassis with a mini-tubbed rear half. The suspension is Ride Tech air ride front and rear and the rear tires are 315s. A Canadian firm called Donz makes the 3-piece wheels and the brakes are Wilwood disc front and rear.

This a truly elegant car with everything necessary to make it look old and run like a modern racing machine.
