1956 Chevy Drag Racer’s Fantasy Ride

December 24th, 2021

This 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air is the rolling embodiment of everything that inspired many of us to build fast cars and seek competition. Car owner Dennis McCarthy (Visual Effects) grew up banging gears as a high school drag racer and later found himself busting knuckles in a SoCal Speed Shop. So, when Dennis got the opportunity to own this car, it was a no-brainer. He pounced on the “shoe-box” Chevy. The rest – as they say – is history. The heart of this beauty is a carbureted small block Chevrolet with double-hump heads (haven’t said that in decades) and a Read More

1956 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup – Slammed Street Beast

September 28th, 2021

Bringing us quality builds from the left coast is a way of life for Shawn from Autotopia. This time he has delivered with a slammed 1956 Chevy 3100 Pickup. If this truck looks a skosh unconventional, it is because the stock stepside bed has been removed and a fleetside bed from a 1959 model has been installed. Looks great to me. First things first; the old straight 6 has been replaced with a fuel injected LS2 V8 (6.0-liter) truck motor mated to a 4L80E automatic transmission. The rear end is a 9-inch Ford with 4.11:1 final drive gears. The built Read More

Twin Turbo 1956 Chevy – Indy Airstrip Attack Half-Mile

October 2nd, 2020

One does not expect to find a twin turbocharged drag car on a half-mile airstrip course – certainly not a vintage hot rod with plans to approach a 200 mph top speed. Obviously, this 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air is beautiful. Despite being a purpose-built drag car, this classic has the body of a show car. Let’s have a closer look. Under the hood of this black beauty is a 632 cubic-inch big block engine by Bischoff Engine Service (BES). Forced air induction is handled with a pair of 88-millimeter turbochargers. The transmission is a GM 4L80 automatic and the rear Read More

1956 Chevy Coupe – 6-Second Monster

January 6th, 2019

That’s correct – all metal (with the exception of the hood and trunk) – with factory glass and trim. Known as The Creamsickle, this orange Chevrolet economy coupe has posted a best quarter-mile elapsed time of 6.80-seconds @ 210 mph! Any way you slice it – that’s a whole lot of pickin’em up and puttin’em down. As previously mentioned, this is a complete car in factory trim. The fenders, doors, and even the bumpers, grille, and trim are stock GM. Translate that into HEAVY. It’s going to take a ton of horsepower to get this big body moving. Wheels are Read More
