Street Digs – ZL1 Camaro vs. Dodge Demon

May 9th, 2018

It seems like everything on four-wheels is lining up to take a run at the new  Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. This video documents what takes place when the daddy of the Camaro line gets his opportunity to ‘cast out’ the Demon in a dig race.

This is a 2017 version of the mighty ZL1 Camaro. This car has been treated to the full regimen of aftermarket bolt-ons. In factory trim, the ZL1 packs quite a punch. It starts with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that is capable of making 650hp and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Factory features like an all aluminum block and cylinder heads, an intercooler, and direct fuel injection help the ZL1 to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5-seconds. The Camaro will need a little help against the flagship of the Dodge SRT lineup. Luckily it is well heeled with aftermarket performance goodies.

The Demon is rolling out all stock. That includes drag radials and a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI engine capable of producing 808hp and 717 lb.-ft. of torque. Zero to sixty is possible in 3.2-seconds despite the Demon outweighing the ZL1 by nearly a half-ton.

There you have the specs as we know them. There has been no account given for aftermarket performance parts (on the Camaro). All that remains is to see what happens when the rubber meets the road.
