High-Level Street Racing from the Big Easy

November 6th, 2020

Come, ride along with the SRC crew as they travel thirteen-hours from middle Ohio to the Gulf Coast and the Big Easy. The purpose of this trip is a night of high-level street racing for cash. On display will be the unique dynamic of a family race team, as well as how they deal with the many unforeseen challenges encountered at this level of competition. Add the demons associated with racing on Halloween night and you have quite a story. Now, let’s go racing.

Once the SRC crew arrives in New Orleans, it is discovered that they have a fuel contamination issue. The experienced gearheads quickly mobilize to remove the water from the fuel system and get the twin turbocharged Chevy S10 back up to snuff. With the fuel system problem rectified, the truck seems to be experiencing a timing malfunction. It pops and snorts whenever boost is increased past a certain level. An inspection of the distributor reveals a problem with the centrifugal advance as well as the drive gear. The aftermarket high-performance distributor will need to be repaired, but over a thousand miles from home, where will the guys find parts? That’s where friends pay off. Drag racers can be the most competitive people. They can also be the most helpful and generous when you find yourself in a bind. After a call to an old friend, the SRC crew obtains the needed parts and makes the repairs.

With a few hours to spare, the guys get the distributor reinstalled and retime the engine. They grab a bite before fueling up and heading to the race site. It’s getting close and The Kid’s nerves are raw.

Top street racing competitors from across the country are present as NOLA heats up for a rowdy night of street racing. Take a look as the action goes all night and into the daylight hours of the morning.
