First Look – Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE

March 7th, 2017

What? No 2018 Camaro Z28? What will we do? How will Chevy enthusiasts survive? Very well indeed, I presume.

Allow me to attempt an explanation as General Motors has provided. There has been no sign of a Z28 version of the Camaro for 2018 because the ZL1 ILE will fill its spot in this year’s lineup. Does this mean that the Z28 is gone for good? Absolutely not, according to sources inside GM. So, why can’t the ZL1 1LE simply be adorned with the Z28 badge? In a word: history. You see, the Z28 Camaro has always been a naturally aspirated car and the ZL1 1LE is supercharged.

The ZL1 package is nothing new. It is the most powerful Camaro option with a 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 that is capable of producing 650hp and 650 lb-ft. of torque. What is new for 2018 is the ILE package which is described as an “extreme track package”. The 1LE package adds much wider, 19-inch wheels and tires, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, a race inspired front splitter and dive planes, and a short-throw 6-speed manual gearbox.

The Camaro ZL1 1LE was fittingly introduced at the Daytona Speedway, just prior to the 2017 Daytona 500. The functionality of the new 1LE package will serve to make this Camaro  one of the most formidable production track cars ever made. Check out the video. This is an awesome car.
