1600HP Faceoff – Audi R8 vs. Nissan GT-R Drag Race

August 4th, 2023

Hoonigan has taken their ‘This vs That’ crew on the road. Kicking it in the Land Down Under, these guys encountered a pair of dramatically modified imports looking to prove a point. It’s Nissan versus Audi in this head-to-head matchup in the 1,000-foot standing drag race venue. Put on your big boy/girl pants and get ready for some fireworks.

At a curb weight of 3,680-pounds, the all-wheel drive 2017 Audi R8 is the cheaper sister of the Lamborghini Huracan – same chassis, engine, transmission, etc. It comes from the factory with a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Featured in this video is an R8 which has been upgraded with a custom Precision twin turbo setup, including intercoolers. With the 76-millimeter twins at work, this Audi is capable of producing approximately 2,000hp. For this race, the car is de-tuned to 1,600hp. Allegedly.

In the other lane, the 2010 Nissan GT-R was originally sold with a twin turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The GT-R is all-wheel drive and tips the scale at 3,850-pounds. The Nissan that you see in this clip has been modified with an internal engine stroker kit. This bumps total displacement up to 4.1-liters. With serious competition in mind, this GT-R is equipped with a Precision Racing PR16 twin turbo kit. Among many other treasures, the PR16 kit includes a pair of 6875 turbochargers. This one can make a bit extra at 1,650hp.

Shall we get these machines on the track and see what jumps off?
