Tuning the Turbo GMC Jimmy!

A few weeks back I visited my good friend Gary Hart to attend the Street Rod Nationals in Springfield, MO. I took random videos of us at the event, and driving/tuning Gary's super cool 1950 GMC truck - with a turbocharged, electronic fuel injected, 1950's era 302 cubic inch six cylinder. As you can see, she runs like a champ! and makes decent power at 10psi!

Firing up the Turbo Jimmy GMC
This is Gary Hart's newest project: a daily drive-capable 1951 GMC pickup with a 311" Jimmy inline 6 engine, HX30 turbocharger, large air-air Intercooler, distributorless ignition using 6 LS coilpacks and Ford 36-1crank trigger, with a Megasquirt-2x (Extra) EFI system from www.DIYautotune.com. Originally built for racing at Bonneville, the engine still has a race-oriented cam profile which may get swapped for something more tame later on. Or maybe not :-) Truck has a TH400 trans, 2.73:1 rear gears. This is a video of an early startup, there are still some bugs to be worked out before we do much tuning. Turbo MegaSquirt Studebaker gets a record @ SpeedWeek 2008
http://www.diyautotune.com/cars/customer/gary_hart_studebaker.htm Gary Hart and crew (Mike and Richard Collison along with Mike's wife Shirley, Gary's wife Sandy, and Jerry Hoffmann) headed back out to the land of wide open salt at Bonneville Raceway this year for SpeedWeek 2008 to try again for the AA/BGALT record, and this time Gary brings it home! Check this video out for an in car view of the record breaking pass, complete with overlay of the radio calls made of the times as they were called out. The car is a 53 Studebaker with a 515ci big-block Merlin and twin Garrett turbo's. Put down just over 700whp and about 750wtq on a Mustang Dyno at 10psi and we had the Boost at 13.5psi for this record run so you could add another 100 or so to both of those numbers, at the wheels. Normac Special / Wayne-Chevrolet 3870cc inline 6cyl pt 2
"Start up" of a New Zealand Historic 1950's racing car. Built in the 1950's with then curent hot rod parts featuring a crossflow Wayne head and Hilborne Fuel Injection. Wayne was a company that made 12-port (cross flow) heads for Chevy & GMC inline six cylinder engines years ago. I believe the heads were intended for all-out racing purposes only.
