You gotta’ love it when the underdog pulls out the victory against all odds. That is the feeling I get watching this Volkswagen Golf R as it lines up against the likes of the mighty Cadillac CTS-V and some top shelf Bavarian monsters.

The VW Golf R is an all-out performance version of the popular Golf GTi. It rolls off the assembly line with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that is capable of producing 292hp. The R package yields sport tuned suspension, all-wheel drive, 18-inch wheels, and optional 6-speed automatic transmission with launch control.

With APR turbocharger upgrades, you can take the Golf R about as far as money will allow. The clean little ride featured in this video has been treated to just enough APR go-fast goodies to smear these high-performance street cars in factory trim. I don’t think that this little VW is ready to jump on any modified Caddys, Camaros, or Corvettes quite yet but it is a hoot to watch it gap some more expensive rides.
