Luxury Land Shark

December 10th, 2016

luxury-land-sharkI’ve often fantasized about a luxurious 1/4-mile street machine with supple leather seats, cold air conditioning, a thumping sound system, lights and turn signals, and even power windows. Well, this 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII may just be the embodiment of that dream.

For decades Lincoln has produced  the Mark VIII as a luxury sports coupe. Small block V8 engines, rear-wheel drivetrains, and all the luxury amenities just some of the characteristic of this popular Ford product. The ’98 Mark VIII came from the factory with a 4.6-liter DOHC engine that was capable of producing less than 300hp and stumbled from 0 to 60 mph in a lethargic 7.1-seconds. The car was heavy at 4,788 gross vehicle weight (GVW) and that is difficult to overcome.

Nevertheless, this clip brings us proof that it can be conquered. It looks like you just snatch out the factory power-plant and install a Coyote engine with a big old 88-millimeter turbocharger and a custom intercooler setup. Add a full roll cage and a set of drag radials and you are poised to make some 8-second passes in the lap of luxury.
