2JZ Toyota Corolla Drops Into the Fives

December 21st, 2017

I have to admit that when I think of a 5-second quarter-mile pass or trapping 240 mph, I ain’t really associating it with a Toyota Corolla. The geniuses at Mech-Tech don’t suffer from my limited vision. These guys have taken an econo-box Toyota and transformed it into a three-quarter chassis drag car that is simply mind blowing. An inline (3.2-liter) six-cylinder Toyota engine (2JZ) is the heart of this beast. It is built by Lazcano Racing Engines. A massive turbocharger is cramming copious amounts of air into the 2JZ and Jorge Juarbe acts as driver and (Microtech Tuners) tuner of Read More

6-Second Toyota Corolla Goes Haywire

September 29th, 2017

Buckle up racing fans and get ready for a wild ride! It doesn’t get much wilder than (low) 6-second elapsed times (quarter-mile) at 230+ MPH – unless you are doing it in a tiny Toyota Corolla (3/4 chassis modified) with an inline 6-cylinder engine. The power plant is a single turbocharged (bigger than an 88-millimeter) 2JZ Toyota unit. This crew managed to produce pretty consistent low 6-second (6.04 @ 236.88 mph) elapsed times that had everybody wondering if they would dip into the fives. I think it is going to happen soon. While some Toyota purists consider the AE86 Trueno Read More

880HP Turbo Toyota Corolla Trueno

June 16th, 2016

This is one crazy fabrication. It’s a Toyota Corolla Trueno outfitted with a turbocharged Honda 2.0-liter F22 engine and a stock S2 transmission. The F22 is standard equipment in the Honda S2000 sports car but this one comes with a long list of embellishments. First, there’s a Garrett 6765 turbocharger with a HiBoost manifold taking care of the forced air induction. The engine has been upgraded with custom connecting rods and stock pistons, as well as a camshaft (DOHC) and valvetrain upgrade. It’s got a MagnaFuel fuel pump, an AEM fuel rail and a set of 2150 fuel injectors providing Read More
