Car and Driver 0-150-0 Speed Test 2023

November 29th, 2023

In what has become the gold standard for performance in production vehicles, Car and Driver Magazine gathered some of the most capable cars – and SUVs – for a test of acceleration and braking prowess. Have a look at the vehicles in this contest and let us know what other vehicles should have been included.

Beginning at the 8:44 mark, we find the Toyota GR Supra 3.0. Equipped with a twin turbocharged inline 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, the GR Supra can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6-seconds and meander through the quarter-mile in 12.4-seconds @ 114 mph. In this combined test of acceleration and braking, the sketchy Supra notched a time of 31.1-seconds from 0 to 150 mph to 0.

Next, we have the Ford Mustang Dark Horse. The Dark Horse package tweaks the 5.0-liter V8 Ti-VCT Ford motor to 500hp and 418 lb.-ft. of torque. This pony can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6-seconds and eclipse the 1320 in 12.0-seconds at 118.4 mph. In this 0 to 150 mph to 0 course, the Dark Horse beat out prominent contenders like the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 when it comes to braking capacity.

The heavy-hitters are yet to come, including the Bentley GT Speed, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the Porsche 911 Turbo S. Other notable entrants are the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Lucid Air Sapphire. Prepare for takeoff.
