1200HP Supercharged Volvo Wagon

April 1st, 2024

Well, Shawn from Autotopia LA has found another hot rod over which we gearheads can drool. Owned by Griffin Steinfeld, this 1200hp supercharged monster is delivered in an unlikely package.

Minus the wheel tubs and massive rear tires, one might assume that this Volvo 240DL Wagon is just your ordinary grocery getter. The front suspension and brakes are factory. Period. The rear suspension setup is custom four-link with fully adjustable shocks. The front wheels are also stock Volvo. The rears are Weld Racing.

Griffin is running a 370 cubic-inch GM overhead cam LS V8 engine. It’s professionally built by Hustler (not the magazine) to withstand copious amounts of boost. Since Griffin uses the car as an everyday driver, he demanded that Hustler make the engine bulletproof. That meant premium internals and forged rotating components. The blower is a Magnuson 2650. Griffin utilizes pulley changes to vary the power from street level to strip. The manual valve body automatic transmission is a GM 4L80E that is also professionally built. Out back, the rear end is a narrowed Ford 9-inch from GearFX. Maximum output varies between 800whp and 1,200whp, depending upon the pulley setup and tuning.

Speaking of tuning; Griffin is using a Holley Dominator control unit.

Enjoy the test drive. It’ll be a doozy.
