Our focus car – a C5 Chevrolet Corvette – has been redesigned since last season. Gone is the cumbersome 6.0-liter truck motor and a lightweight (all-aluminum) 7.0-liter engine, built by Mike Lough Racing Engines, takes its place. A monstrous crankshaft driven ProCharger supplies the forced air induction and shifting duties are handled via a 2-speed Powerglide transmission. Fuel and fire are supplied and controlled with Holley Dominator components. Maximum output numbers are kept pretty close to the vest, but with a personal best trap speed of 148 mph in the eighth mile, this Chevy is putting lots of ponies to the pavement.
After the competition breaks in the first round, Eric advances to Round 2. He’s taking on a Nissan 200sx droptop. The Corvette eats the little Nissan for breakfast, and it don’t even make a burp. On to Round 3.
Eric draws a mean Fox Body Mustang for this round. The Ford comes out of the hole like a bullet and takes the lead. When the Corvette gets hooked up, Eric manages to get all that power to the ground and drive around him for the win. Whew! That was a close one.
The Finals are next and Crazy Legs is running against a turbocharged Rambler. This should be a good one.
