Dirty Racing – 8-Second Subaru WRX

So, we talked to Rick Wilson about the Patriot, a 2004 Subaru WRX built (in house) by Dirty Racing Products (DRP). Using IAG Case Halves, DRP upgraded the 2-liter boxer engine to a 2.5-liter, with a Manley crankshaft, Manley connecting rods, and Manley pistons. Headgames cylinder heads are equipped with GSC Stage 3 camshafts and Ferrea valvetrain components. E85 fuel is delivered using an Aeromotive brushless pump with fuel injectors from T1 and Injector Dynamics (ID). The Patriot is still on a stock (tuned) ECU. The custom turbo kit features a Precision 7275 turbocharger. Output is estimated at 1,100hp. The transmission is manual (Triple Disc Competition Clutch) and stock.

This car has been a rally car, a road course car, and now it is a quarter-mile car. DRP has used this WRX format to showcase their parts from all three segments in order to show that it can be done with production, bolt-on parts.

The DRP crew managed to get the Patriot – I love the wrap, BTW – down to an elapsed time of 8.82-seconds @ 160 mph during TX2K19. Can’t wait to see how this one progresses.
