It should come as no surprise that the car to bust the 300 mph ceiling was a Bugatti. After all, the Bugatti Veyron gained fame after churning out 268+ mph back in 2013 and earned an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. The Bugatti is fast; with a rich heritage in racing.
The Bugatti Chiron, with a price tag of $2.1-million, is certainly one of the most powerful production cars in existence. At the heart of this French beast is a quad-turbocharged (yes, four of them) 8.0-liter W12. The transmission, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, is part of a space-age all-wheel drive setup. Maximum output is rated at 1,500hp and 1,180 lb.-ft. of torque and the car can blast from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.3-seconds. It has an electronically controlled top speed of 261 mph (obviously not the one featured in this video).
Here, we have a closed course and a professional driver. The car is specially outfitted for a top speed run – and run it does. All the way to 304.77 mph!
