No exotic imports in this feature video. Just some good old traditional Chevy versus Ford knuckle busting. The venue for today is a quarter mile dragstrip. The competitors have been going at it since the mid-sixties and the struggle continues on with each new model year. First, we have the 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette. It is powered by a mid-mounted (naturally aspirated) 6.2-liter V8. The direct injected engine is capable of churning out 490hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. The transmission is an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. It can be shifted with either push buttons or steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. Car and Driver says the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8-seconds.
In the adjacent lane is the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Under the hood is an intercooled supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that can generate a mind-numbing 760hp and 625 lb.-ft. of torque. It can rip from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5-seconds. Shifting duties are left to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Brembo brakes.
Now, it’s time to line them up and race. When it comes down to where the rubber meets the road, which car will be the winner? Watch the video and find out.
