Nice time I have a 86 Fiero Gt needs a engine swap and would like to know what year 4.3 is it 96 and up with the better vortec heads what cam or is the engine like the one HotRod built in the 3/4 350 chevy article

Mark, I am Jason's Dad and the current owner of the Fiero. The 4.3 block is a 1990 with later Vortec heads. Stock crank, rods and pistons. Mild cam that signs off at about 5500 RPM. Only putting out about 250HP (Guess). If I could get another 60HP I could punch it into the 11's. Thanks wegofast@gmail.com

I am not sure what cam grind you have or if it is a Hydraulic roller that is what I plan on Crower will grind me anything I want for $160 its a regrind I will be putting 11.5 to 1 compression pistons and the edelbrock intake with water/methanol injection pluse some port work to the heads and headers

Mark, thanks for the link on the heads and intake. That would be a nice thing to own but the porting might be for high NASCAR RPM's only. The intake looks nice. As for my Cam, it's a Comp Cam. Nothing special, just off the shelf. Has a fairly lumpy idle but can cruise on the street without loping. RS

Well i have ben working on gathering up parts for my 4.3 build and swap into a 86 Fiero GT my friend just donated a set of 12.5 to 1 pistons I sure hope the guy at snow is right about the water/methonal injection I allso bought a 4.3 murcruiser MPFI intake gota do some porting to get it to flow like i want and the heads are geting 2.02 int and 1.6 ex with some port work not sure if I am going with comp cams 280 grind or a custom grind but i will be seting the heads up for a max lift of .600 i would love to pick your brain on the trany i plan on changing to a 4t60 or a 440

Hi did you build your owen trans if so what Final gear did you end up with di you use a stock convertr or one with a higher stall speed do you have amanual shift pattern or is it even possible with this trans and can the torque conveter lockup be manualy controled

The pistons are .040 and it has a mild cam that signs off at 5500 RPM. The headers are home made. Holley 500 carb on a Edelbrock intake. That's it, no carzy stuff. Simple and effective. I might consider selling the car if someone is interested in it. Located in Kansas. Thanks! Randy

The previous owner works in a tranny shop so he built it therefore my knowledge is somewhat limited. I know he messed with different gearing and ended up somewhere around 3.40 if I remember right. No manual shift pattern. In fact, that ET was done in Drive and letting it shift itself. The stall is some type of off the shelve unit that he knew would work. Real mild. You can power brake it to about 4000 RPM max but it will just fry the tires so I don't push it that hard. The tranny has a toggle switch to lock OUT overdrive but thats it. Was getting about 20-22 MPG in overdrive which is awesome for a 12 second car. I might consider selling it. Randy
