 Car Insurance

Liability Protection
Liability auto insurance coverage protects you financially if you are found to be responsible for an accident. Many states require a minimum amount of liability coverage. Make sure you have plenty of insurance coverage to cover your personal assets in the event of a serious accident.

Bodily Injury Liability Coverage
Provides protection if you are found legally responsible for the injury or death of another person resulting from a car accident.

Property Damage Liability Coverage
Pays for damage to your car resulting from any accident other than collision (or rollover). For example theft, fire, vandalism, flooding and hail.

Protection for your Car
If your car is financed, lenders usually require it to be insured for collision and comprehensive insurance coverage based on its actual cash value.

Comprehensive Coverage
Pays for damages to your car caused by collision or rollover regardless of who caused the accident.

Collision Coverage
If you have an older car, dropping your collision or comprehensive insurance coverage may be a good option for you to lower your car insurance premiums.  Dropping your collision coverage basically means that if you were involved in a car accident, the car insurance company would not pay to fix your car.  Your liability coverage would cover any repairs if another vehicle were involved.

Personal Protection
The amount of protection you need for yourself and your passengers depends on where you live, how much you drive and your health insurance coverage.

Personal Injury Protection Coverage
Pays for your medical expenses and lost income. Required in many locations.

Medical Payments and Extended Benefits Coverage
Covers medical expenses for you and your passengers if injured in an accident. Provides income replacement and disability benefits resulting from an accident. May also include specific death benefi

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage
Covers injuries to you or your passengers resulting from an accident caused by an uninsured, underinsured or hit-and-run motorist. Required in many locations.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists Property Damage Coverage
Covers damage to your property resulting from an accident caused by an uninsured, underinsured or hit-and-run motorist.

Adjusting Deductibles
The deductible is the amount of money you must pay if you need to make a car insurance claim.  By increasing this amount you can reduce your car insurance premium.

Safety Discounts
Make certain that your car insurance company knows about all the safety features on your car.  Airbags, special restraint systems, vehicle stability control, anti-lock brakes, vehicle tracking systems, daytime running lights and other features can help reduce your car insurance premiums.

Extended WarrantyMedical Coverage
Covers medical expenses for you and your passengers if injured in an accident. Provides income replacement and disability benefits resulting from an accident. May also include specific death benefits.

Request Quotes
A month before your car insurance is up for renewal, get a couple of quotes from competing companies.  Rates can drastically change over time between competing companies.

Towing and Car Rentals
If you already have towing and rental coverage from another source, dropping these options from your car insurance policy can reduce your car insurance premiums.

Low Mileage Discounts
Some car insurance companies offer discounts if you put on less than 10,000 miles per year.

Stacked vs Non-Stacked Coverage
You sometimes have the option to purchase non-stacked (limited) form of Uninsured Motorist coverage. Under this type of coverage, if injury occurs in a vehicle owned or leased by you or any family member who resides with you, you will only be entitled to the amount of UM coverage purchased for that vehicle. If an injury occurs while occupying someone else's vehicle, or you are struck as a pedestrian, you are entitled to select the highest limit of UM coverage available on any one vehicle for which you are a named insured, insured family member, or insured resident of the named insured's household. This policy will not apply if you select the coverage available under any other policy issued to you or to any other family member who resides with you.

Rental Car Insurance Coverage
In some states you are covered for the cost to repair or replace a damaged rental vehicle. However, this does not cover administrative fees, the loss of a vehicle's use, or the reduction in a car's value due to damage. If you're renting, you can buy optional insurance coverage from the rental company. If you rent a car with Avis, Budget or Hertz you could be covered for administrative fees, the loss of a vehicle's use, or the reduction in a car's value due to damage.
