LS3 Mazda RX-7 vs. Corvette ZR1 – Drag Racing

This vs That brings us this story of what happens when you put an LS swapped Mazda RX-7 on the line against a modified Corvette ZR1. The ‘Vette is more powerful, but the Mazda is the lighter of the two. How will this crude affair shake out? We’ll find out on the track.

The 1994 Mazda RX-7 is a 2,800-pound rear-wheel drive coupe that has been upgraded with a big old Chevy V8 engine. The Chevy mill has been outfitted with a Lunatti LS7 rotating assembly, a set of ETP cylinder heads, a Fast intake manifold, as well as a Holley fuel injection system and controller. The transmission is a 6-speed manual, and the rear end is an 8.8-inch Ford. This combo is good for about 500hp to the rear tires.

The heavy Chevy tips the scale at 3,884-pounds. This rear-wheel drive beast is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 motor. This rare 2019 Corvette ZR1 features a manual transmission (7-speed) and tons of carbon fiber. It can make 755hp and has factory warranty coverage remaining. Wow!

I can’t wait to get these bruisers on the asphalt.
