Ford Mustang GT500 vs. BMW M8 vs. Volvo Polestar 1 – Quarter Mile Dig and Roll

This video production brings us into the world of elite sports coupes. These three extraordinary examples of performance innovation have been gathered on a closed course to compete in drag and roll racing. The American entry makes the most horsepower while the German car claims the superior 0 to 60 time. The Swedish coupe makes the most torque. So, which of these bone stock entries will prove superior when the rubber meets the road? Shall we find out?

The rear-wheel drive Ford Mustang GT500 is equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It is capable of producing 760hp and 625 lb.-ft. of torque. Ford claims that the GT500 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3-seconds. The car weighs in at 4,225-pounds and has a sticker price of $81,890 (U.S.).

As the flagship of the BMW brand, the M8 Competition is the epitome of luxury and performance. Under the hood is a twin turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that can generate 617hp and 553 lb.-ft. of torque. A sophisticated launch control system and all-wheel drivetrain permit the BMW to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.0-seconds. The BMW M8 tips the scale at 4,480-pounds and costs approximately $175,745.

Made by Volvo, the Polestar 1 comes in with a price tag of $155,000. It is powered by a supercharged and turbocharged (that is correct) 2.0-liter I4 and a pair of lithium-ion powered electric motors. This combination can churn out 610hp and 738 lb.-ft. of torque It is all-wheel drive and weighs 5,570-pounds. The Polestar 1 takes approximately 4-seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph.

The GT500 and the Polestar 1 get lined up as one driver reveals that his ride has a feature known as “Drag Mode”. Hmm. Wonder how that works? Buckle up and hold on to your hat. This is about to get crazy.
