Howto Install a Mass Airflow Sensor
The mass air flow sensor is designed tomeasure the amount of air entering the engine from the air filter. It sends theinformation to the car\'s engine control unit, which in turn determines theamount of fuel and spark that goes into the engine. A broken mass air flowsensor can possibly cause a wide range of various vehicle drivability problemssuch as stalling, especially when the engine is cold, misfiring, pooracceleration, etc. This article deals with the air flow sensor for a 2008 ScionxB, but the process is similar for other vehicles.

Instructions:
1. Openthe hood and locate the mass air flow sensor. It should be located just to theleft of the air box--where the air filter is located--on the air intake tube.There is a small harness plugging into it, and the wiring for the harness isclipped into the air box. Pull the wiring out of the clip.
2. Unclipthe mass air flow sensor from the wiring harness. Using either a Phillips/Torxscrewdriver or unscrew the screws and carefully remove the MAF.
3. Carefully place the replacement mass airflow sensor into the intake tube, orienting the MAF back in the same directionas the original one. Screw it in place and Plug the wiring harness back inplace and then push the wiring into the clip on the air box.
