This auction is for a set of four new CNC Machined Steering Stop Bolt Covers... The BOLT is not included... it is for demonstration purposes (it is the actual replacement bolt for the stop though). AKA Groan Stopper Bolt Cover.
If you own a 1986 through 1995 Toyota 4x4pickup or ‘86-95 Toyota 4Runner, or any model of T-100 pickup, you probably have heard the metal on metal creeking noise when you have turned the wheel all the way to one side to the other (it might be your CV joint...this won\'t fix that problem!). This is most likely because the cheap plastic bushings on the steering stop boltare weak, flimsy plastic and have worn or broken off, and now you have metal on metal rubbing (this metal on metal grinding sound is god-awful).... Two wheel drive pickups need two stops, and these will fit some but not all two wheel drive pickups. I have had a few people buy them for 2WD vehicles and they are too big. You may have success with wrapping the bolt in electrical tape and then putting the stops on. Try it at your own risk. (I cannot determine which models of 2WD have the smaller bolt...Sorry.)
Why do I sell these? I bought fourfrom the Toyota dealership only to have them break off/wear throughwithin less than a month! So I decided to make my own…I have had a set on my pickup for about 3-4 years now and no more creaking!
I have found that the gray stops seem to last about two-three years in the high plains desert of Pueblo Colorado, before they start showing some signs of surface cracking.... But they should still last 3-4 years. (Full disclosure... I have a few repeat customers that seem to buy these once a year, if you do lots of tight turns, regularly, they won\'t last as long). These stops have less UV resistance compared to the Black stops in my other auction (I am out right now). The black material is a little more expensive but should be less prone to high UV exposure...
NOTE: If you do happen to wear through the stop, simply take some pliers and rotate the stop to a new, non-worn area, on all fourbolts.
To install I recommend:
1) First, grind down or smooth out any rough edges on the curved metal surface (carside)that the steering stop bolt(wheel side) comes in contact with (this will help prolong the life ofthe steering stop). If it is smooth, don\'t worry about this step. Remove any or all of the old plastic bushing on the steering stop bolt.
2) Secondly, turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and install the stop on the Front-Left and Rear-Right bolt. Use more medium hammer strokes rather than fewer heavy strokes. The stops have a recessed area (unlike OEM parts) to lock the stop in place. Then turn the wheel all the way to the right and install the stop on the Front-Right and Rear-Left bolt
NOTE: Because these stops are slightly larger than stock they might increase the turning radius slightly... but not much. OEM is about 1/16\" thick, these are about 1/4\" thick. Compare thisto the gap distance between the stop and metal plate...itis negligiable. HOWEVER, I was informed by one of my awesome customers that you can back off the nut (base of the bolt), turn the bolt in about one turn (maybe two, but do so at your own risk!), and gain back 100% of original turning radius, if desired. Again it isn\'t much, but if you do notice a slight reduction, this will take care of it!
If you ever have an issue with these. I want to hear about it. I will try to remedy. There is no warrantee. But I am a reasonable person.

I have gotten several questions about the use of grease and the stops (both between the stop and the bolt and between the stop and curved metal piece. After some consideration, I would say it can\'t hurt! And it might help. Oneof the reasons for buying these stops is so that you don\'t need to use grease (which gets washed away after a coupleof weeks).I would love to hear back if you do decide to use grease... Thanks!
