Forsale are brand new EMPI 34 PICT-3 carburetors for air-cooled Volkswagen Type 1engines. This carburetor was built to be a stock factory replacement for OEM VWcarburetors on Type 1 equipped cars from 1971 through 1979. It is jetted to fitthe 1600 CC Type 1 engine in your beetle, bus, type 3, Karmann Ghia or VWThing.
Thisis a name brand carburetor made by a company which has been in business formore than 40 years. This carburetor is flow tested before it is shipped todealers across the nation to ensure quality performance and operation.
Thiscarburetor is for DUAL PORT ENGINES and will NOT fit Single Port cars!
Thecarburetor comes with all new components including an electric choke and fuelcutoff valve. It also comes with new studs and gasket to make it a completebolt on for carbureted cars.
Stockjetting in this VW 34 Pict 3 carburetor is a 55 idle jet and a 127.5 main jet.
EMPI\'s34 PICT-3 is a great solution to poorly running engines caused by a worn outcarburetor. Factory PICT 34 carburetors can also suffer from leaking throttleshaft bushings or gummed up vacuum and fuel passages. Also this can be a greatremedy to an old and crispy VW fuel injection system gone haywire.
Thiscarburetor can be run with either the factory vacuum advance distributor or a009 style distributor.

This carb is designed \"true to original\" to replace all stock applications for 1600 based VW engines or others originally fitted with a 34 pict 3. It includes gaskets and studs. It will fit 1600 engine from 1975 to 1979 if they have been converted from fuel injection to a carburetor. This carb wasoriginallydesigned for dual port engines.
Thisdefinitelybeats a rebuilt unit as the \"butterfly\" will be tight and there will be no stripped threads or warped surfaces. EMPI is one of the few outfits the test runs each carb to make sure it functions properly. Be CAREFUL, there is a lot of junk 34 PICT-3 carbs on the market.Installation:
Removeyour old carburetor:
1.Remove your air cleaner.
2.Disconnect your throttle linkage by loosening the set screw on the barrel nuton your carburetor\'s throttle arm. Save the barrel nut for you newcarburetor.
3.Remove your fuel line. We suggest leaving a rag beneath it to catch any fueldraining out. You may need to clamp it shut if you have a buggy with a fueltank above the engine.
4.Remove any vacuum lines attached to the carburetor. We suggest taking a photoof them before removal to ease installation of your new carburetor.
5Remove the two 13 mm nuts fastening the carburetor to its flange on the intakemanifold. One will be right in front the other will be harder to accessbetween the manifold and the fan shroud.
6.Once the carburetor is removed, clean the intake manifold flange of any oldgasket material or debris.
Installingyour new carburetor:
1.Install the two new studs in the base of the carburetor making sure that thelonger section of threads is facing down and will pass through the intakemanifold flange.
2.Install the gasket on the base of the carburetor by sliding it on the studs.Depending on your preference, you may want to use a thin bead of gasolinefriendly RTV.
3.Torque the two carburetor retaining nuts down to 14 ft-lbs. For those doing itby hand the nuts should be tight but not Hulk-strength over-tightened.
4.Replace your fuel and vacuum lines referring to your photographs or a shopmanual.
5.Replace your air cleaner.
Adjustingyour new carburetor
1.There are two screws on the side of your carburetor above the electricchoke. See instructions included with carb.
2. Startyour car and proceed first to adjust your idle speed. The larger screw on thecarburetor is your idle speed adjustment. Shoot for 950 RPMs. Turning the screwin will reduce the idle, while backing it out will raise the idle.
3.Then adjust your fuel mixture. The smaller screw on your carburetor is yourfuel mixture screw. While the engine is at idle, turn the screw in untilthe engine starts to sputter and die. Then back the screw out about a halfturn, until the engine smooths out. Listen to the engine.
PLEASENOTE: We do not recommend adjusting the screw on the carburetors fast idle cam.That adjustment is set from the factory and should not need to be touched!
