This is the electronic coolant temperature sensor that monitors water temperature for the onboard computer.
If your CEL or Check Engine Light is ON and scan tool indicates P0116, P0117 or P0118, there is most likely a problem with the Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT) circuit. On some years and models, this sensor will
also control the temperature guage.
When the Coolant Temperature Sensor has failed or is failing, it can cause a host of problems.•Difficulty of starting engine when cold.
