Remflex® Exhaust Header Gaskets. Remflex\'s one-of-a-kind flexible graphite material has been used in industrial applications for over 30 years. Whether you have an old pick-up truck in need of a manifold gasket or a race car with custom-built headers, Remflex exhaust gaskets are guaranteed to work every time.A common misconception is that if you spend a lot of money on high-quality headers with thick flanges, leaks will be non-existent. A thicker flange does help, but it cannot completely eliminate warping. Constant thermal cycling, particularly in high performance and/or high-load environments, causes warping of header flanges and cast iron exhaust manifolds, as well as the cylinder head\'s exhaust flange. Leaks are imminent when the sealing surface is warped, and pitting of the exhaust port sealing surface is usually the result of a leak. A new set of standard gaskets will not solve the problem, but Remflex gaskets, which have a 50% crush built in, can seal gaps as large as 1/16-inch. Furthermore, unlike traditional gaskets, they do not shrink, so they never need to be re-torqued. Surprisingly, heat - the very thing exhaust gaskets are designed to withstand - is the leading cause of exhaust gasket failure. This is due to the fact that traditional exhaust gaskets are made of composite materials, which are mixtures of natural fibers and synthetic compounds bound together with rubber. Simply put, it\'s only a matter of time before the high temperatures in the exhaust system burn the composite materials of the gasket, resulting in an exhaust leak. You\'ve probably noticed the strong odor that emanates from the engine compartment after installing a new set of premium exhaust gaskets. That\'s the odor of the rubber binders in composite materials, which start burning out almost immediately. When rubber overheats, it shrinks and hardens. That\'s why you\'re told to re-torque the gaskets on a regular basis, and why if you don\'t, an exhaust leak will form. Remflex exhaust gaskets are made of 100% flexible graphite and can withstand temperatures of up to 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit, so they are unaffected by the exhaust system and will not burn out, shrink, or leak.
