Congratulations! You found the reasonable solution to a common but pricey repair issue with the 98-05 ML series front drive shaft. The clicking, clunking, and popping sounds coming from your front drive shaft are common issues resulting from the non grease-able needle bearing (that is in the center of the double u joint) getting dried out, rusting, and then falling apart.This kit is what you need to repair that double u-joint on the rear end of your ML\'s front drive shaft and getting your drive line back to being smooth and quiet. I know that the dealer says that they are not rebuild-able and your local part store shows no parts available, but that is just Mercedes protecting their parts profits. The parts are indeed available, and here they are....complete with a detailed set of instructions with great photos that will make it possible to do yourself. Even if you prefer to take it to your local mechanic to save getting your hands dirty, you need this kit since Mercedes only offers a complete propeller shaft.Don\'t spend $400-600 on new shaft for your vibrating/popping/chirping/groaning ML when you can easily rebuild the one you have! Included in this kit are all the parts shown in the 2nd photo - Both (2) u-joints and the centering bearing, ball, race/seat, spring, and grease seal that goes in the middle of the double u-joint assembly (centering bearing shown in place - last photo). The front end of the shaft has a cage and ball constant velocity joint that typically does not go bad unless the boot gets damaged and the joint gets contaminated with dirt and water.
