My Sordid Story;

I noticed a few oil drips under my Mazda 5 (2009) and took it to the dealer to get it fixed; I was told that the \'Oil Cooler\' has a leak; repair cost : $1000.00 ($500parts+$500labor)! WHAT!?!? I didn\'t have the money to do this; so I went away in dismay. Then a friend suggested that I take it to a mechanic who\'s not at the dealer. The mechanic took a look at it and told me that the \'Oil Cooler\' is a metal part that can\'t get leaks; what was leaking was a $20 gasket/seal that holds the oil cooler to the main engine. The problem with that style of Mazda engine is that it comes with a plastic (not rubber) seal, that was not designed to be replaced, it has a life span of about 100,000miles (give or take) - he\'s seen this stuff before he told me. The way to \'fix\' it in Mazda\'s eyes it to replace the whole oil cooler with a new type of oil cooler that can take a rubber gasket/seal (which costs $8), these are a lot easier to install and replace. The reason Mazda doesn\'t sell the old-style gasket/seal (the one I\'m selling) is because they claim it needs to be installed with the \'right amount of torque or the oil cooler will malfunction\' - and it seems that they don\'t trust anyone to deliver the \'right amount of torque\' except the factory. This, to me, smells like a class action law-suit; if Mazda knew this, they should have replaced this type of oil cooler with the newer type (which they sell ONLY as a replacement) but they don\'t, they KEEP making engines with this type of oil cooler forcing everybody who buys a car with this engine to eventually shell out almost $1000 for a new oil cooler. The good news is that my mechanic turned me onto a place where I could buy the same gasket/seals that the factory uses to this day, I got a hold of these people and the wouldn\'t sell me just one gasket; they can only sell them in quantity (to resellers etc) so I got a dozen, when I only needed one, and decided to sell the rest on ebay... just to be clear; these are designed for Mazda engines on cars as listed above - I can confirm that my Mazda 5\'s gasket/seal was replaced close to 15,000miles ago and it\'s been running great! BUT I am not a mechanic and make no warranties; please make sure you do the research needed to make sure that your model engine has this kind of gasket/seal! I\'ve tried to be as precise and showed as many photos as possible (including my original gasket/seal). I have seen online that these are the sames seal/gaskets as the Ford \'Transit Connect\' 2010-2013 with 2.0L/2.3L engines and 2005-08 Ford \'Escape\' and \'Mariner\' with similar engines - but I cannot verify this, as I don\'t have those cars - this is information can be found online. Please double check all compatibility info! I hope this answers everything but if you have questions please feel free to ask. I will not do the research on your behalf to see if your car is has one of these or not (I spent enough time confirming it for mine)... but I\'m happy to answer other questions.
