DAYTON BRAND TRX SIZE (METRIC) WIRE WHEELS.These were made in 1982 and placed onto a new AURORA AC Cobra.The mating Michelin tires (220/55 VR390) are still made but cost over $500 each.There\'s Light/medium amounts of rust in on the \"inside tire portion\"- I\'d say thespoke \"nipples\"wouldneed a good rust buster soaking to turnshould they need to be adjusted.The outside chrome is very good- some rusting on the back side and essentially noneon the front rim. The hubs are great. Stainless spokes are near perfect.I did remove the rubber liner that covered the nipples in order to get agood view of the condition.These wheels do require tubes.
As listed above these are unique wheels that take metric size tires. NO OTHER TIRES WILL FIT!!!!The 390mm rim diameter designation translates to 15.35\". At the time Michelin thought thiswould be the latest and greatest. The tires were high performance and the system foundfavor with some Ferraris, BMWs, Mustangs, and a handful other imports. Unfortunately thedesign did not catch on and was dropped by the mid/late eighties.
These wheels are still usable. The wheels actually look very presentable from the\"front\" side. I\'ve only washed them- with waxing they could really look sharp. If you happento have a car with similar wires you might want one or more for spares. Perhapsthe \"man-cave\" needs some decor? I will be listing the Michelin tires that weremounted but will state now that they are really not reliable as they are older (some minorcracking present on some) and appear to have a flat spot. A real shame as they havetons of tread left.
One wheel (#1) does have a lot of drive hub wear and #4 has some wear- probablyplaced on the rear end. Numbers 2 and 3 are sold. Unless you have a preference,I will determine the wheel sale order. In other words, unless the first buyer wants themall, the best wheels will sell first.The rims are 7\" wide overall. The face of the drive hub is 4.5\" from the rim edge.On the front side the hub projects 3/4\" from the rim edge.
