Called a UTE in Australia, the Datsun pickup is a sub-compact. At 2,910-pounds, it has been upgraded with a (rear mounted) turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine. Maximum output has been dyno certified at 654whp. Shifting is left to a 3-speed automatic transmission and the rear end is a Ford 9-inch with Strange axles. The wheels are Weld and the brakes are from Wilwood. Two things jump out about this truck – it’s tiny and skillfully built throughout. Nice.
The Skyline GT-R is a bit more serious. Outfitted with a turbo 3.2-liter inline 6-cylinder engine (with nitrous) and a sequentially shifted 5-speed gearbox, this monster has dyno tested at 1,600whp. It tips the scale at 3,483-pounds. On the ground are SSR wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson rubber. This build features the best-of-the-best, including a billet rear end. If this guy pulls alongside, it’s over.
Today, we will be witnessing a series of drag races to 1,000-feet. Giddy-up.
