Exotic Drag and Roll – McLaren vs Porsche

No. You are not likely to see this drag race produced from your average Saturday night car show. These two cars are about as exotic as they come, and both are terribly expensive. Let’s take a closer look.

The Porsche is a 911 GT2 RS which means that it is basically a road race car. It is a rear-engine, rear-wheel drive, hardtop, coupe, with an automatic transmission (7-speed dual-clutch). The engine is a 3.8-liter, twin turbocharged, boxer, and it is capable of producing 700hp. With a 0 to 60 mph time of only 2.7-seconds, this beautiful German entry should be a force with which to be reckoned on or off the track.

The McLaren is the vaunted 720S. It is a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive supercar with a 7-speed, dual-clutch, automatic transmission. Powered by a twin turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 engine, the 720S can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7-seconds and is capable of generating 710hp. This stunning British machine is purpose-built to tame street or strip.

So, this is set to be a three-part contest. First up is a drag race. Next is a roll race. If necessary, the third race will be run to decide a winner. Buckle up – it’s time to go racing!
