Twenty Car Street Digs – Houston Cash Days

February 18th, 2021

You know the rules. It’s single elimination – if you lose, get back on the trailer. Don’t jump the light early and don’t cross the center line. If you make it to the finish line quicker than the guy (or girl) in the other lane, you move on to the next round. Whoever wins the most rounds gets the money. That’s $250 times twenty cars ($5,000).

While this is technically taking place on a closed course, with safety personnel standing by, the racing conditions are as close to “street” as possible. The track is not prepped and the course is an eight-mile. No timers and no tree. Now, let’s get started.

The first race of Round One pits a pair of nitrous cars against one another. In the right lane is a Fox Body Mustang with a small block Ford motor. The car is called Ay Wey. On the left is a Pro Stock Chevy Beretta – remember those? The Beretta is running a big block Chevy mill. With the Chevy popping and snorting, the Mustang grabs the early lead before the Beretta crosses the center and earns a DQ. Mustang FTW.

Race Two features a naturally aspirated Chevy Monte Carlo (big block engine) and a turbocharged Chevrolet S10 Blazer (LSx motor). Both these cars look seriously fast. The Blazer hesitates at the line and gets smoked.

In race number three, we have a pair of Mustang entries going at it. One is a turbo car and the other is running nitrous. I’ll let you be the judge of this one.

The action is just heating up. Check out the rest of the video.
