Top Gear Tests the 1500HP Rodin FZero

January 9th, 2025

What’s faster than an F1 race car? Ever heard of the Rodin FZero? Today, we join Top Gear Head of Car Testing Ollie Marriage and Rodin Founder David Dicker to explore the intricacies of this most interesting automobile.

First of all, where does it come from? Rodin is a New Zealand based automaker. Their assembly plant features a test track and an on-site engine forge. These guys ain’t playing.

With plans for a production model, the Rodin FZero is a single seat, closed canopy, closed-wheel, all-carbon spacecraft. Boasting more than 6,500-pounds of downforce, the FZero production model will tip the scale at only 1,540-pounds of curb weight. That’s more downforce and less mass than an F1 car.

This nimble creature is powered by a dry sump 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V10 engine. Although little independent testing has been done, computer models indicate that the FZero can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds and turn the standing quarter-mile in less than 9-seconds.

Steering and suspension components are made primarily of carbon-fiber to further reduce the weight of the vehicle. Those eye-catching forged magnesium wheels are from Oz Racing, and they are wrapped in Avon rubber.

Shall we get this baby on the track and see what all the fuss is about?
