Three-Way Drag Race – Porsche Taycan Turbo GT vs. Ferrari SF90 vs. Yamaha R1M
January 7th, 2025Here we have a series of drag races between a pair of 1,000+HP hypercars and a serious street bike. Gearheads in the know realize that winners and losers come down to power-to-weight ratio. Here’s the calculation: the Yamaha is at 990hp per ton of mass, the Ferrari is logging in at 599hp per ton while the Porsche kicks the kitty at 437hp per ton and here is why.
The R1M features a wet sump 1.0-liter four stroke engine that can churn out 200hp. The rear-wheel drive street bike can blast through the standing quarter-mile in 9.8-seconds @ 149.9 mph and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6-seconds. Top speed is 186 mph. It’s going to be hard for a car to match those numbers. Hard, indeed.
An Italian nightmare for the competition, the all-wheel drive Ferrari SF90 utilizes a 4.0-liter twin turbo engine and a trio of electric motors to generate 1,000hp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque. The SF90 can clear the quarter-mile in 9.6-seconds @ 145.2 mph and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.3-seconds. Computer controlled top speed is 211 mph.
Finally, the all-wheel drive Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is well heeled with a pair of electric motors that can zap out over 1,000hp. Called “extreme” by car review magazines, the Taycan Turbo GT can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2-seconds flat and turn the standing quarter-mile in 9.4-seconds @ 150 mph. Top speed is 190 mph.
Let’s get these renegades on the track before I bust a vessel.
