Supercharged 1965 Chevy Chevelle – Ultimate Street Sleeper
August 7th, 2024This may be the one. After years of searching, this may be the ultimate street sleeper. At first glance, this 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS appears to be a delicate restoration flower. Dig a little deeper and you will find the heart of a roaring lion. So, what gives this car’s prowess away? Those fat back tires. Let’s get into this.
We join two Shawns – already in progress. After numerous transformations, the lonely days of the pandemic led to the latest version of this clean Chevy. It all begins with a spec chassis from Roadster Shop. Despite the low stance, this car is equipped with coilover suspension on all four corners. No airbags here – not that there’s anything wrong with air suspension. The four-wheel disc brakes are from Wilwood and the three-piece wheels are Forgeline. Those redline radials are from Diamond Back.
Making this thing go is a supercharged LSX V8. Underneath those mock vintage Chevy valve covers is a 416 cubic-inch Don Hardy mill that’s putting out massive horsepower. Add an LSA 2650 blower and things really take off. This behemoth has been dyno certified at 900hp. That’s 900hp to the rear wheels! In keeping with the sleeper theme, this Chevy is equipped with a 1.875-inch headers and a full Borla exhaust.
The manual transmission is a Tremec T-56 Magnum 6-speed, and the rear end is a Ford 9-inch with 4.10:1 gearing.
The exterior color, you ask? That’s a custom version of Glacier Gray with a pinch of blue metallic. It just tickles the eyes.
