Real Street 2000HP Mustang – 7-Second Twin Turbo Coyote

August 25th, 2021

Greetings fellow drag racing fans. Meet Brett Lasala (Real Street Performance) and his booger green Ford Mustang. Brett once held the World Record for a Mustang with a 6R80 6-speed automatic transmission (in the quarter-mile). Although he has recently moved on to a Powerglide, his elapsed times and trap speeds have not suffered (an extra turbocharger helps too). Let’s kick the tires on this pony car and see what makes it tick.

When you get past the offensive green hue, this Mustang has a pharmaceutically clean engine bay. It features a 5.0-liter Coyote engine built by Fast Forward Racing. Forcing copious quantities of air into the scalded dog of an engine are a pair of 76-millimeter Precision turbochargers. The controller is a MoTec M150 and it is tuned by Jay at Real Street Performance. Brett’s best pass (with the current setup) is a 7.07 @ 195 mph. He looks to break into the sixes during this outing.

After a series of preliminary passes, Brett pulls to the line as darkness falls on Day 1. He cuts a clean light and rips off a 7.36 @ 196.36 to get this party started.

It’s Day 2 and Brett believes he has his Mustang dialed-in. He makes several impressive runs before drawing “Pickle Rick” in his big block powered Mazda RX-7. Rick is a veteran Street Class racer and the number one qualifier in this class. As the sun goes down and track temperatures subside, the pair of green monsters come out of the hole with a serious degree of violence. Brett hooks up clean while Rick has traction issues. Brett takes the win with a 7.22 @ 199.85 mph. Wow!

With that victory Brett moves on to the Finals against a bodacious C6 Corvette. Will the Mustang hold together and win the event? Can Jay get the right tune in the car and claim the prize? Is a 6-second pass in Brett’s immediate future? All these questions – and more – will be answered before we reach the end of this video.
