Rambunctious Restomod – 7.0-liter 1965 Mustang Fastback

March 19th, 2025

Greetings gearheads, speed freaks and auto enthusiasts of every ilk. Allow me to introduce Robert and his labor of love. You see, Robert took over this 1965 Ford Mustang project after his beloved brother-in-law passed away. His goal was to complete the build and return the finished product to his sister in remembrance of her fallen husband. He grabbed the Mustang (in many pieces) and took it coast-to-coast from California to McQueens Hot Rod Shop in South Carolina. Robert rolled up his sleeves and helped his friends at McQueens to assemble the restomod you see here. Now, he has returned to the left coast to keep his promise.

That striking color is Deep Impact Blue over a Black Pearl. Body mods are numerous and skillfully done.

Under the hood of this Mustang Fastback is a 351 Windsor stroked out to 427 cubic-inches. Key elements include a dry sump lubrication system (trunk mounted reservoir), AFR cylinder heads, a hydraulic roller camshaft and multi-port fuel injection. The exhaust is fully custom and sounds amazing. Power is running through a professionally built Ford AODE 4-speed automatic transmission. Out back, there’s a Mark Williams nodular housing with a Ford 9-inch third member. It’s geared low at 4.10:1.

The front chassis is comprised of custom bent square tubing and a cantilever suspension setup. The rear is also a cantilever arrangement and it’s stunning. Tweaked by Haulk Automotive Suspension and Alignment, this rig is truly state-of-the-art. The four-wheel disc brakes are from Wilwood and they are manual.

Without further ado, let’s get this beast out on the street.
