Porsche 911 Reimagined – Singer Vehicle Design
August 9th, 2024Top Gear was so impressed by this Singer recreation of the iconic 964 generation Porsche 911 that they sent assistant magazine editor Tom Ford across the pond for a look.
At first glance, this is a nice looking 1970s Porsche 911. Further inspection reveals that something is off. Not offensive, just different. The body work is impeccable, and the stance is perfection. So, what gives? Is this just a well-maintained old Porsche or is something more sinister at hand?
Singer Vehicle Design has recreated the entire body of this beloved German sports car in carbon-fiber. The only steel parts on the Singer Turbo are the doors. Carbon fiber composition yields a lighter curb weight with exquisite lines. The newly designed outer shell shrouds deeply dished rear wheels wrapped in fat rubber. This is a car well-heeled for canyon curves. The brakes are Brembo carbon-ceramic. According to Tom, they are both quiet and more than capable.
A rear-engine, rear-wheel drive car, the Singer Turbo is available only with a 6-speed manual transmission. The engine is a 3.8-liter Mezger flat six with twin turbochargers. Intercoolers are integrated into the intake manifolds and the wastegate system is electronically controlled. Singer offers the Mezger engine in variations that range from 450hp to 510hp, depending on the requirements of the consumer.
Fully customizable, the Singer Turbo can be equipped as a daily driver, a weekend warrior or a full-on track assault vehicle. This is truly a spectacular automobile.
