Overkill – 1600HP Chevy Chevelle Restomod
January 22nd, 2025Greetings gearheads. Allow me to introduce Chris from Resto Mods Speed Shop. In this video, Chris will be kicking the tires on this 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle giveaway build. If you like vintage cars with late model powertrains and mind-numbing acceleration, you’ll appreciate this ride.
It all begins with a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle body. The pretty sheet metal is mounted on an Art Morrison chassis. The rear suspension is a triangulated four-link. The front suspension is tubular control (A) arms with rack-and-pinion steering. There are Strange Engineering adjustable coilovers on all four corners.
Those wheels are from American Racing. They are 19 x 10 in front and 19 x 12 in the rear and they are wrapped in Toyo rubber. The brakes are electronically assisted Wilwood disc all the way around.
Finally, under the hood is an LS7 7.0-liter V8 from Nelson Racing Engines. It’s top of the line built with premium internals to handle all that boost. “What boost”, you ask? There’s also a pair of 88-millimeter Mirror Image turbochargers sucking air under there. Spent gases are dumped into a 3-inch stainless-steel exhaust routed all the way out the back. The combo is good for 1,250hp on pump gas and 1,600hp on racing fuel.
The transmission is a 4L80E (from a truck) with billet internals and a stall converter. The rear end is a Ford 9-inch. What else, right?
I believe a ride along is in order. Shall we go?
