Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red Goes 8s @ 161 MPH
September 6th, 2024There is a new sheriff in town as it pertains to the Ford Mustang lineup. The 2025 Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red is about as good as it gets when it comes to street legal performance. Check this out:
So, the factory Ford Mustang GT500 comes with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 mill capable of producing 760hp. That seems pretty extreme, right? Well, get a load of the Shelby Code Red version. Shelby American ditches the blower for a pair of Xona dual ball bearing turbochargers. The bottom end of the 5.2-liter engine is beefed up with a set of custom Manley pistons (10.5:1 compression ratio) and Manley I-Beam connecting rods. Up top, the heads are upgraded with Ferrea competition valves and PAC valve springs. Other engine modifications include ARP main studs and head studs, oil squirter block offs and heavy-duty secondary timing chains.
The twin turbo setup is from Fathouse Performance. In addition to the Xona turbines, the kit has stainless-steel Tial v-band exhaust clamps, PTP titanium turbo and manifold blankets, Tial MVS wastegates, 3-inch stainless-steel downpipes, stainless-steel tubular exhaust headers with billet collectors and ARP header bolts.
The intake and intercooler systems are also modified for performance as are the fuel injection and supply systems.
Electronics are controlled by MoTec including nine levels of traction control, boost by gear, rolling anti-lag, Flex Fuel (E85 and 93-octane) and a ghost cam feature.
With all the bells and whistles in place, the Shelby Code Red is claiming 1,300hp and 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque (on E85). Thatβs a whole lot of ponies, neighbor.
