Mustang Madness – Turbo GT500

January 16th, 2018

If you want to win a ton of races (street or strip), a good place to start is with a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. With its powerful, supercharged V8 (5.8-liter) engine, the Shelby GT500 is capable of producing 662hp and 631 lb.-ft. of torque from the factory. Add a turbocharger (or two) and you have an absolute beast of a race car that posts consistent 6-second quarter-mile times at more than 200 mph.

The Haltech World Cup Finals Import vs. Domestic brings out some of the best drag racers in the country to compete for cash and bragging rights. Our feature cars for this video are a pair of nearly identical Shelby GT500 Mustangs with turbochargers. Since they are so similar; I’ll just refer to them as ‘Blue’ and ‘Yellow’. Yellow is owned and operated by Vinny Palazzolo and is a 2009 model. Blue is campaigned by Evolution Performance. The action is coming at you from the Maryland International Raceway in Budd’s Creek, Maryland.

After qualifying, the yellow Mustang begins with a bye run in the first round. It sets the tone by posting an elapsed time of 6.75-seconds @ 204 mph.

This is a clip that is loaded with fast Mustangs. Blue and Yellow are incredibly equal to one another and it makes for some very competitive racing. Take a gander for yourself.
