LQ9 Swapped 1966 Chevy C-10 Canyon Carver

December 26th, 2024

Shawn from Autotopia LA has dug up another gem from the land of fruits and nuts. That’s right – the left coast has delivered again! This time it’s a patina rich 1966 Chevrolet pickup with a modern powertrain. At first glance, this truck might look farm funky but it’s fresh in all the right places.

At the heart of this (naturally aspirated) beast is a 6.0-liter LQ9 V8 engine block bored and stroked out to 408 cubic-inches. It’s loaded with a Texas Speed steel crankshaft, Callie’s Compstar H-Beam connecting rods and Carillo low silicon pistons. Up top, we have a TSP Tsunami Stage 4 camshaft with cathedral port cylinder heads (oversized valves). The valvetrain is a combination of TSP and Comp Cams. Air flows through a Holley Hi Ram intake manifold with an ICT spacer. Fuel supply is courtesy of a Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection setup. The exhaust is custom. We crunched the numbers and determined that this Cowboy Cadillac was dropping approximately 500hp to the pavement (625hp at the crankshaft).

The manual transmission is from a Cadillac CTS-V and the rear end is a GM 12-bolt from a late model SUV. Final drive gears are 3.43:1.

As a cost cutting measure, the chassis and suspension are basically stock with the exception of sway bars and springs. The brakes are four-wheel disc. Wheels are Detroit Steel Ambassadors wrapped in Nitto rubber.

Anyone else feel like a test ride?
